Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals

Baptisms:

A baptism (sometimes called a “Christening”) marks the first step of a lifelong spiritual journey with God. It is a time of celebration and thanksgiving, anchored within the Christian faith. It involves acknowledging your belief in God and a willingness to learn to follow Jesus and turn away from anything that is evil and sinful.

Most frequently it is a time to celebrate and give thanks to God for the gift of a child or new baby, but baptism is available for anyone, of any age, who wishes to make that step of faith.

In the case of babies and children, the parents and godparents make the decisions and promises on their behalf. Godparents promise to pray for and encourage the child in their spiritual development and to help the parents to bring up the child in the Christian faith. Godparents must themselves be baptised.

To arrange a baptism or talk through what is involved, please call our vicar on 01756 793612.

Weddings:

Congratulations on your decision to get married. We are delighted that you are considering a wedding here at Christ Church, or at our sister church, St Mary the Virgin, Carleton-in-Craven.

If you live in the parish of Christ Church Skipton with St Mary Carleton, or if you have a link with either church, you are entitled to get married here. If not, you may still be able to get married at either Church if you are willing to attend for regular worship for a period of at least 6 months prior to your wedding.

If you are not sure yet, why not just pop along and join us for our Sunday morning service at 9.30am at Christ Church or 11.15am at St Mary’s, to get a feel for the Church and an opportunity to meet us. You would be very welcome!

For further information, an informal chat or to book a wedding, please ring our vicar on 01756 793612.

Funerals:

The death of someone we love is always a difficult and often also a painful time. A funeral service in Church offers the opportunity to give thanks to God for that person’s life and what they have meant to you, to place them into God’s care and to hear the Christian message of hope that death does not have the last word.

We will work closely with you and the funeral directors, visiting you at home, and helping you put together a service that is meaningful to you and the departed person.

To arrange a funeral, please contact our vicar on 01756 793612, or you may contact the funeral director of your choice and let them know that you would like to hold your service at Christ Church Skipton or St Mary’s Carleton and we will take it from there.
